Women rule the beach!
May 9, 2010
Hollywood, FL

Footvolley is played by both men and women.

This weekend the women made a case that they simply are just as amazing to watch as well as interested in developing the game as well.  Five Brazilian women put on an amazing show of top level footvolley with skills, class, and technique that rivaled many of the competing men.  Another group of American women, showed that they are willing to travel across the country just to play as well.

'I love footvolley.  I learned it in Italy.  It's easily the funnest sport for anyone that has played soccer before to try.  It's addicting and you easily see your skill level go up by every time you get out there to play.  I wish there was more exposure for footvolley because with that the sport sells itself.'
- Amanda Wallo Footvolley Athlete

The Athletes
Essentially eight women played over the three days.  From Brazili, Josy, Bianca, Fernanda, Jiji, and Natalie; the athletes from the US were: Qiana from Atlanta, Leah from Santa Cruz (CA), and Amanda from Clearwater Beach (FL).

The Game
When women play footvolley, the tend to set more often with their shoulders versus their chest for obvious reasons.  The height of the net is lower at 6'6".  The women don't head the ball with the same force that their male counterparts do.  This leads to longer rallies and more placed balls translating into increased emphasis on technique.  Overall, the women's game is just as impressive as the men's.

Matches on TV
Like the men's matches, the women's matches will also be televised.  Stay tuned with the latest on our programming schedule for that.
